Easter Opening Hours

News on the water situation

As previously reported in Paraplyen, there has been instability in the water supply to the old part of NHH's main building (including the tower block). This is still the case, and one should still not drink water from water coolers in this part of NHH.

Servicebygget Water Supply Closed Thursday Night

The water supply in Servicebygget will be closed temporarily from 00.30 am Thursday night due to a change of the buildings water meter. The task is expected to be completed in three to four hours, and the water will be back by office hours Thursday morning.

Avoid using water automats in main building

Due to an unstable water supply to NHH's main building, water automats in this part of NHH should not be used until further notice. The problem may last for as long as two weeks, Central and Estate Services reports.

Scientific Publications - 2011 Report

The deadline for reporting scientific publications from 2011 is approaching. It is important that every author checks that their scientific publications are correctly registered into the Cristin-system. The deadline is February 15, 2012.

Main water supply closed Tuesday

Due to permanent connection of water supplies to the new building, the main water supply will be closed Tuesday between 10.00 and 13.00. This will affect the main building (the tower block). Bathrooms and water will be available as usual in the Service building.

Safe to drink NHH water

Central and Estate Services at NHH report that the school's drinking water quality has been tested and is now safe to drink in all parts of NHH, including the main building. The problems occurred Monday afternoon, when the school's main water supply was ruptured during digging operations.

Internatinal mobility and Tax liability in Norway

Due to NHH's report obligations to the tax authorities and others, all NHH-employees, Norwegians and foreign nationals, who are living in Norway and have stayed abroad for a shorter or longer period of time during 2011 in connection with research or teaching, must submit a report about this by 10 December 2011.

Big mergers must be dropped

A lot has gone wrong in the Greek economy in the last year - including in the air. Earlier this year, the EU Commission blocked the proposed merger between Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines. The reason given was that the merger might lead to the creation of a 'quasi-monopoly'. This will be one of the topics for discussion at the Annual Conference of the Association of Competition Economics (ACE) on 17 and 18 November.

Creating debate with teacher research

Professors Kjell Gunnar Salvanes and Jarle Møen and research fellow Helge Thorsen have published the results of a research project on the selection and allocation of labour to the teaching profession. The main findings are surprising and some people may also find them controversial.

On Thursday, September 29, NHH participated in the Global Skill Seminar hosted by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) in São Paulo, Brazil. The Skill Seminar was broadcast on the Internet, thus, the debates with the guests happened in multiple cities at the same time, for the first time in CEMS history.

Big success for Aniversary Week

Anniversary Week is over, leaving us with many good memories of the six days NHH spent celebrating its 75th anniversary. A royal visit, leaders of business, school pupils and a staff party with 500 participants helped to ensure that the anniversary will not be forgotten any time soon.

Bergen took a look at NHH

NHH held Open House on Saturday 10 September, which marked the end of a successful Anniversary Week. Many visitors came to NHH for the 75th anniversary, and many staff and students brought their family along to show off the school.

EARNet symposium comming up

Five EARNet Symposiums have taken place (2001 Wuppertal, 2003 Manchester, 2005 Amsterdam, 2007 Aarhus and 2009 Valencia); the three most recent have included a Ph.D. Workshop. The Symposium is established as a major event in Europe for presentation and discussion of auditing research papers. It also provides a forum for academics, practitioners, policy-makers and standard-setters to discuss auditing research and current issues in the auditing environment. The 6th EARNet Symposium will be at NHH 16-17 September 2011 and is part of NHHs 75-years anniversary.

Research Dissemination Award to Victor Norman and Thore johnsen

A brand new award was presented during the celebration ceremony in the main hall on Wednesday 7 September. Starting this year, the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) will present a research dissemination award every third year to outstanding researchers who disseminate their research in a clear and unambiguous manner. This year, the award was presented to two high-profile NHH professors: Thore Johnsen and Victor Norman.

Happy birthday!

Wednesday 7 September was a day of great celebration at NHH! The campus was filled with enthusiastic students willing to join the day's celebration events and to indulge themselves with the anniversary cake that enlarged the merriment and the festive. The event was accompanied by the Optimum choir who sang in the canteen and in the main hall.

A lecture with the Nobel Prize laureate

Thursday 8 September was devoted to the new honorary doctors. First, there was a symposium in the main hall, followed by lectures in the small auditoriums. Not surprisingly, one of the most popular lectures was the one given by Finn E Kydland, which took place in the auditorium bearing the professor's name.

Less provocative than expected

The aim of the street art project was to challenge stereotypes and attitudes at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). After today's debate between artists and academics, no one seems to have felt overly provoked, however.

The anniversary week has started

Yesterday, Monday 5 September, has started the NHH's 75 anniversary week with the NHH Forum and its corporate partner this year - Orkla. NHH will be celebrating the whole week that promises to be an exciting one with events coming in many forms, including the visit of the King of Norway on Wednesday.

Does Orkla need a head office?

NHH Forum 2011 was held on Monday 5 September. Orkla was this year's selected company. CEO Bjørn Wiggen gave a talk on value creation in a long-term perspective and this was followed by a debate. During the debate, a professor from NHH questioned Orkla's corporate structure.

Open House, Saturday 10 September

NHH will hold Open House on Saturday 10 September, the final day of Anniversary Week. The school invites staff and students to bring along their families, neighbours, friends and acquaintances to NHH to show them the school and present some of its activities and research.

School pupils meet researchers

The Friday of Anniversary Week will be devoted to school pupils. More than 500 10th-year pupils will be coming to NHH to learn more about what research entails and what goes on at NHH.

Honorary doctors coming to NHH

NHH has appointed ten new honorary doctors in connection with the anniversary. Thursday 8 September will be a historic day, as all the doctors will be gathered for the first time for a symposium at NHH. All students and staff at NHH will have an opportunity to attend lectures by Nobel laureate Finn E Kydland and the other honorary doctors.

Post Doctoral Research Fellow position

A position as Post Doctoral Research Fellow in "Strategy and management - Business model innovation in services" is available at the Center for Service Innovation (CSI), Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) for a period of 3 years. Applicants must have completed, or be close to completing, their PhD in an area of research with relevance to service innovation and document the ability to publish in international, first-rate journals. The PhD must be completed by the appointment date.

Book launch imminent

Two authors have been working on the anniversary book since 2007, and it will be officially launched on the Wednesday of Anniversary Week when a book seminar will be held in its honour.

Innovative debates on New Social Media

Last week, the CEMS students at NHH kicked off the new academic year by participating in one of the three pillars of the CEMS programme: the CEMS block seminar. The theme for this year's seminar was Social Media, a topic that was debated by students and academic staff at NHH, and corporate representatives.

Debate between street artist and professors

The street art project on the school's walls will be completed this week. The project will be concluded during Anniversary Week, when a whole day will be devoted to street art, culminating in a panel debate.
